Ichthyosaura alpestris — Alpine Newt

The Alpine Newt is a beautifully colored European salamander, with males displaying a vivid orange-yellow belly, blue flanks, and dark dorsal spotting during the aquatic breeding phase. It inhabits cool, clear mountain ponds and streams across much of Europe and is partially aquatic, spending the breeding season in water and the rest of the year on land. It requires a paludarium or cool aquatic setup and should not be kept with tropical fish due to its low temperature preference.
