Sinotaia quadrata — Japanese Trapdoor Snail
The Japanese Trapdoor Snail, or Shida Snail, has a rounded, olive-green to brown shell and is named for the operculum it uses to seal itself when threatened. It is a hardy, peaceful grazer that feeds on algae and organic debris without harming live plants. Native to East Asian rice paddies and slow rivers, it tolerates a wide range of temperatures including cooler setups.
