Kinosternon scorpioides — Red-headed Mud Turtle
The Red-headed Mud Turtle is a small, robust Central and South American turtle with distinctive reddish-orange coloration on the head and neck. It inhabits shallow, slow-moving freshwater bodies including ponds, marshes, and seasonal pools. An opportunistic omnivore, it is active and curious but can be defensive when stressed.
